This week my wife and son were stricken with a feverish cold. It was sudden and the their temps went up to 103. It was my sons first fever and of course that is scary stuff for a first time parent. He is 6 months old and very healthy but after going to his 6 month check up they both fell ill in less than a day. I was at work and so not going to the doctors was free from the illness until yesterday.
So, I wonder if we hadn't taken him to the doctors would he have been sick? Is a check up worth the risk of illness? Is it just paranoia? I worked in a hospital for three years and don't remember being any more ill than any other time in my life. Of course, I never got sick when I was a pack a day smoker and as soon as I quit I was sick all winter with a cold and I caught the flu. Breathing fire kills bacteria?
Aah, I do miss the cigarettes.
